About us
Fantom Island Studios is a small media studio on St. Helena island in the South Atlantic. We provide services related to media production; specialising in audio engineering. The studio is owned and operated by James Fantom, himself an experienced studio and live musician.
James ' love of music began as a child watching his grandfather play the accordion and harmonica. Music seemed to be a type of magic that James wanted to know and understand. In his teenage years, James picked up a guitar for the first time, and fell in love with the instrument.
Having studied classical guitar at Temple University under excellent tutelage, James honed his skills and knowledge of the instrument and of music as a whole. James has found himself on stage performing Bach fugues to experimental rock, reggae, country, bluegrass, pop, jazz, and even traditional Middle Eastern and African styles. James draws from this wide musical palette in his approach to musical creativity and audio production.
James is also a music educator, providing mentorship and private tuition to young aspiring musicians, on a number of instruments. He has been teaching students since his teen years. With an exploratory and holistic approach to learning, James understands that not everyone wants to learn to be a classical master, and takes individual student needs and personality into account. After all, music should be a joy to learn.
Fantom Island Studios provides solutions for all audio and video production needs, be it live, in the studio or out in the bushes. If you have an idea you want to be made a reality, get in touch!
